Rocky Mount Eye P.A. has the equipment and qualified staff to perform the necessary testing to diagnose and treat a variety of eye conditions.

Visual Fields -

Many conditions and diseases reduce one's peripheral vision. Using computer assisted automated perimetry we can accurately assess our patients' peripheral vision and monitor the progression of their disease. The test uses different strategies to test for specific disease processes. The patient focuses on a fixated target while small spots of light of varying intensity flash in the peripheral visual field. The computer records the responses of the patient and through statistical analysis, helps determine the level of vision impairment. This procedure has greatly helped us manage a number of conditions, especially glaucoma

Corneal Topography -

Corneal Topography is one of the most rapidly developing specialty tests in eye care. The cornea is the clear covering of the eye and is responsible for the majority of the focusing power of the eye. With the progression of excimer laser treatments for corneal irregularities and refractive errors, it became necessary to develop a means of accurately measuring the shape of the cornea. This instrument, through computer aided graphics, plots a topographical map of the cornea to highlight irregularities, distortions, astigmatism, and other corneal anomalies.
OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) -
The OCT is used to diagnose Retinal diseases such as Age Related Macular Degeneration, Macular Edema and Macular Holes as well as Optic Nerve diseases such as Glaucoma. This device captures three-dimensional images of the retina and / or optic nerve by measuring optical reflections. These images show swelling, bleeding or abnormalities in the retina and optic nerve and helps to determine which type of treatment is recommended. The OCT is a non-invasive test that simply takes a picture of the patient's retina while they are comfortably positioned at the instrument.
